Battleground Republican opposes Iran war, defers to Trump on war powers
Original: Republican battleground candidate opposes Iran war but won’t challenge Trump’s war powers
A Republican candidate in a key battleground race says she or he opposes a war with Iran but will not move to limit President Trump's war powers. The stance highlights a tension for Republicans in competitive districts: distancing from potential military conflict while avoiding a direct clash with Trump within their own party.
Why now: Rising tensions with Iran have put Republican candidates in competitive races on the spot over military policy and loyalty to Trump.
