California Sues Trump Over Fuel Economy Rollback

California has filed a lawsuit seeking to block the Trump administration from weakening federal fuel economy standards. The state, long allowed to set stricter emissions rules, argues the rollback would undermine climate policy and air quality efforts. The move sets up another legal clash between the state and the federal government over environmental regulation, with automakers and climate advocates watching closely for the outcome.
Why now: The lawsuit escalates the ongoing legal and political fight over US emissions and climate policy.
