Original: Tony Romo's CBS Sports exit ends backward spiral in a job he began with so much promise https://www.nytimes.com/athletic
Tony Romo is leaving CBS Sports, ending a tenure as the network's lead NFL analyst that began with enormous promise but, per The New York Times/The Athletic, devolved into a 'backward spiral' of criticized broadcasts. Once celebrated for his predictive instincts after retiring from the Dallas Cowboys, Romo's commentary drew growing scrutiny in recent seasons, and his departure closes a high-profile chapter in NFL television coverage.
Why now: A marquee NFL broadcaster's exit from a top network job is major sports media news as the season is underway.
