King Charles to address Britain's colonial past on Caribbean tour
Original: King Charles III to acknowledge 'darkest days' of Britain's colonial rule during Caribbean tour https://www.theguardian.
King Charles III is set to acknowledge the 'darkest days' of Britain's colonial rule during an upcoming tour of the Caribbean. The remarks, reported by the Guardian, would mark a significant royal acknowledgment of the harms of empire, a topic of growing debate as Caribbean nations push for reparations and reassess their ties to the British monarchy.
Why now: The prospect of a reigning monarch formally confronting Britain's colonial legacy is politically sensitive amid ongoing reparations debates in the Caribbean.
