Latvians vote in election shadowed by war and drones
Original: Latvians vote in election in shadow of drone incursions and war in Ukraine
Latvians headed to the polls in a parliamentary election held against the backdrop of Russia's war in Ukraine and a series of drone incursions into NATO airspace. Security and defence spending dominated the campaign, with voters weighing how the Baltic nation of nearly 1.9 million should respond to heightened tensions on its eastern flank. Reuters reported from the country as ballots were cast.
Why now: The election is happening amid escalating Russian drone incidents near NATO territory, making security the central issue for voters.
