Social media users are circulating claims that Egypt carried out drone strikes on Ethiopia, that President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi expelled Ethiopian diplomats, and that the long-running dispute over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam has escalated toward open conflict. No official confirmation of any strike or diplomatic expulsion has been reported, and the long-standing dam dispute between the two countries remains unresolved.
Why now: Tensions over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam keep flaring, so claims of military escalation spread rapidly even without confirmation
