Original: Despite rising online hate, this scholar says the internet has been great for the Jews
A scholar argues in J. The Jewish News of Northern California that, despite rising online antisemitism, the internet has overall been beneficial for Jewish communities. The piece weighs online hate against the internet's role in connecting Jewish communities, spreading education, and enabling religious and cultural life, concluding that the benefits outweigh the harms. It comes amid heightened concern over antisemitism on social media platforms.
Why now: Online antisemitism is a prominent and contentious topic, making a counterintuitive argument that the internet has benefited Jews notable and discussion-worthy.
