Amazon's $1B data center plan draws more backlash
Original: Amazon's $1B plan to combat data center backlash draws more backlash https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2026/10/amazons
Amazon has announced a $1 billion plan aimed at addressing growing public opposition to its data center expansion, but the move itself has been met with further criticism. The initiative, intended to ease concerns over the environmental and community impact of its infrastructure buildout, is being dismissed by critics as insufficient or as public relations rather than meaningful change.
Why now: Amazon's attempt to defuse data center criticism has instead intensified debate over the company's environmental footprint
