Padres Name Deadline Acquisition Ray to Start NLDS Game 1
Original: Padres go with Deadline acquisition Ray to start NLDS Game 1
The San Diego Padres have decided that Robbie Ray, acquired at the trade deadline, will take the mound for Game 1 of the National League Division Series. The choice hands the ball in the postseason opener to a mid-season addition rather than a longer-tenured member of the rotation, a decision drawing attention as the playoff matchup begins.
Why now: The playoffs are starting and the Padres' choice of a deadline pickup as Game 1 starter is a notable roster decision.
