New research reported by PsyPost finds that lower cognitive ability is associated with stronger Christian nationalist views, and that the link holds even after controlling for education level. The finding has sparked discussion about the psychological roots of the ideology, with critics already debating the study's methods and what its results imply about religion and politics in the United States.
Why now: The finding touches on a polarising mix of religion, politics and intelligence, inviting sharp reactions from both critics and supporters of Christian nationalism.
