Hundreds of people gathered in Mississippi to protest a Republican-led redistricting effort, with demonstrators describing the battle over electoral maps as familiar territory. The protest, reported by the Guardian, comes amid ongoing national disputes over how congressional district boundaries are drawn and who they advantage. Critics argue the remapping threatens Black voters' representation in the state.
Why now: Redistricting fights are a flashpoint in US politics and this is a fresh, large public demonstration against a Republican map.
