Original: Drexel University and the Academy of Natural Sciences may be headed for a split, sources say
Drexel University and the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia may be heading toward a separation, according to sources cited by the Philadelphia Inquirer. The Academy, the oldest natural science research institution in the United States, has been affiliated with Drexel since 2011. Details of a potential split, including what it would mean for the museum's operations and collections, have not been confirmed by either institution.
Why now: Reports of a possible break-up of a high-profile affiliation between a major university and a historic museum raise questions about funding and institutional strategy.
