New film on Vichy regime strikes chord in today's France
Original: ‘We swept a lot under the carpet’: Vichy regime film hits home in France of 2026 https://www. theguardian.com/world/2026
A new French film examining the Vichy regime's collaboration and antisemitic persecution during the Second World War is drawing attention in France, with its makers saying the country long 'swept a lot under the carpet' about that era. The film is being discussed as timely, resonating with debates over historical memory, antisemitism and the far right in French politics today.
Why now: Debates over France's Vichy past and the rise of the far right make the film's themes feel sharply current.
