Radio signals detected from exoplanet Beta Pictoris b
Original: beta pictoris b
Astronomers have picked up radio signals coming from Beta Pictoris b, a giant planet orbiting a young star about 63 light-years from Earth. The detection is a rare feat, as most planets beyond the Solar System emit signals too weak to observe. Researchers say the find could open a new way to study magnetic fields and conditions on distant worlds.
Why now: The first radio detection from a planet outside the Solar System is a major scientific milestone.
