UN Security Council to decide future of Western Sahara mission in October
Original: El Consejo de Seguridad afronta en octubre el futuro de la misión de la ONU en el Sáhara Occidental https:// fed.brid.gy
The UN Security Council is set to address in October the future of its peacekeeping mission in Western Sahara, MINURSO, as the mandate for the long-running operation comes up for renewal. The deliberations come amid continued tension over the disputed territory, and observers of the Sahrawi question are watching closely for signals on whether the Council will adjust the mission's scope or the broader diplomatic framework.
Why now: The MINURSO mandate renewal deadline in October forces the Security Council to take a position on Western Sahara's unresolved status.
