US Immigration and Customs Enforcement is reportedly entering the names of people who observe or protest its operations into a database built by Palantir, according to a Gizmodo report. The revelation is drawing criticism from civil liberties advocates, who say it suggests surveillance of lawful activism and could chill First Amendment-protected activity around immigration enforcement.
Why now: The report raises fresh concerns about government surveillance of protesters and the growing role of Palantir in immigration enforcement.
