Ukrainian Yak-52 gunner shoots at Russian drone, then taunts it
Original: Footage of a Ukrainian YaK-52 backseat gunner engaging a Russian attack drone with small arms fire and then flipping it
Newly circulated footage shows a Ukrainian Yak-52 trainer aircraft's backseat gunner firing small arms at a Russian attack drone in mid-air, then making an obscene hand gesture at it. The clip is drawing attention as another example of improvised Ukrainian aerial defences, with light propeller aircraft being used to hunt Russian drones over the battlefield.
Why now: The unusual, almost improvised tactic of a two-seat trainer hunting drones by hand, capped with a defiant gesture, is striking viewers amid ongoing Russian drone attacks.
