The Guardian reports that British farms are facing the worst bluetongue outbreak on record. Bluetongue is a viral disease of livestock such as sheep and cattle, spread by biting midges, and a record outbreak threatens animal health, farm livelihoods and movement of animals across the UK countryside.
Why now: A record livestock disease outbreak threatens farmers' livelihoods and raises concern about its link to a changing climate.
