Original: 'We swept a lot under the carpet': Vichy regime film hits home in France of 2026 https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/
A new French film examining the collaborationist Vichy regime is resonating with audiences in 2026, with its makers suggesting the country long avoided confronting that history. The line 'We swept a lot under the carpet' captures the mood, as viewers draw parallels between the wartime era's politics of division and current debates in France.
Why now: The film's themes of historical collaboration and denial resonate with current political tensions in France.
