California voters to decide $7.5 billion science agency plan
Original: $7.5B plan for California science agency free from Trump's influence will go to voters
California voters will decide on a $7.5 billion ballot measure that would fund a state science agency designed to operate independently of the Trump administration's influence on federal science policy. The plan, which advances to the ballot, is framed as a way for California to protect and continue scientific research funding at the state level regardless of federal decisions.
Why now: Debates over federal science funding cuts under the Trump administration have pushed states to consider independent alternatives.
