Russia to raise military spending to record levels
Original: Russia plans record war spending
Russia is planning to allocate record amounts of funding to defence and war-related expenditure in its next budget, according to a new spending plan. The proposed budget puts military costs at their highest level in modern Russian history, underlining Moscow's continued commitment to the war in Ukraine. Observers are weighing what the surge in spending means for Russia's economy and the conflict's trajectory.
Why now: The record defence budget signals Russia is preparing for a prolonged war, with implications for Ukraine and global security.
