Oman has reportedly banned a Flydubai co-pilot accused of extremist views after the UAE prosecutor general described an onboard incident as a 'terrorist attack'. Officials say the co-pilot used a crash axe and tried to seize control of the aircraft, nearly crashing it with 182 people aboard. The case has raised questions about airline crew vetting and aviation security across the Gulf.

Why now: A rare alleged attack by an airline crew member on a full passenger flight has shocked the region and drawn official statements from two Gulf states.
