Ukraine says Russian troop losses top 1.5 million
Original: General Staff: Russia has lost 1,538,950 troops in Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022
Ukraine's General Staff reports that Russia has lost 1,538,950 troops since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. The figure comes from Kyiv's daily update on Russian casualties, which Ukraine issues each morning. The numbers cannot be independently verified, and Moscow rarely confirms its losses, but the tally continues to climb as fighting along the front lines shows no sign of abating.
Why now: Ukraine's daily casualty update on the war with Russia remains closely tracked amid ongoing fighting.
