Priest who roots against Pope Leo's beloved White Sox speaks out
Original: What's it like to be a Catholic priest rooting against the White Sox, Pope Leo XIV's favorite team? https://www.nytimes.
Pope Leo XIV, the Chicago-born pontiff, is a known White Sox fan, and attention has turned to a Catholic priest who roots for a rival team — the Cleveland Guardians — as the clubs meet. The story explores the friendly tension of a clergyman pulling against the pope's favorite ballclub, a light-hearted collision of faith and baseball loyalty.
Why now: The novelty of a priest openly rooting against the pope's favorite baseball team during a White Sox-Guardians matchup is drawing attention.
