Pakistan urges dialogue with Houthis as Riyadh weighs force
Original: Pakistan suggests talking to Houthis as Riyadh weighs military options
Pakistan has proposed pursuing negotiations with Yemen's Houthi movement at a time when Saudi Arabia is reportedly considering military options in response to Houthi attacks. The proposal highlights a split in approach among regional actors, with Islamabad favouring diplomacy while Riyadh weighs a harder line. The suggestion underscores Pakistan's interest in stability in the Gulf, where many Pakistani workers live and which is vital to its economy.
Why now: Renewed Houthi attacks and Saudi deliberations over a military response have put diplomatic alternatives back on the agenda.
