Bangkok floods leave streets underwater as death toll hits 40
Original: Bangkok at breaking point as floods turn streets into stagnant lakes
Severe flooding has turned Bangkok's streets into stagnant lakes, leaving at least 40 people dead. Authorities have declared a disaster across all 50 districts of the Thai capital as water stands with nowhere to drain. Experts warn that extreme flooding will only get worse across south-east Asia as the region faces increasingly intense monsoon conditions.
Why now: A disaster declaration covering the entire capital and a rising death toll make the flooding a major breaking news story.
