Heathrow third runway branded an expensive disaster
Original: The expansion of Heathrow would be an expensive disaster for Britain and the world. Burnham needs to block it
Guardian columnist George Monbiot has argued that expanding Heathrow with a third runway would be an 'expensive disaster' for Britain and the planet, urging Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to block the plans. He contends a new runway flies in the face of climate reason, saying prioritising human life over short-term growth means flying less, not more.
Why now: Renewed debate over Heathrow expansion has pitted economic growth against climate commitments, prompting calls for political opposition.
