Ueckermünde foundry to close, leaving 290 workers jobless
Original: nordkurier
The foundry in Ueckermünde, a town in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the Szczecin Lagoon, is shutting down, putting all 290 of its employees out of work. Regional media in northeastern Germany, including Nordkurier and NDR, are covering the closure, which removes a traditional industrial employer from the region. Reports so far focus on the scale of job losses for the local workforce.
Why now: The sudden loss of 290 jobs at a major local employer is significant news for the economically sensitive Ueckermünde region.
