Pakistan has summoned India's charge d'affaires to lodge a strong protest after two Pakistani civilians were killed at the border between the two countries. Islamabad condemned the incident as a serious violation, and the killing has sharply escalated diplomatic tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours, who have a long history of disputes along their contested frontier.
Why now: The killing of civilians at the India-Pakistan border risks inflaming an already volatile bilateral relationship between two nuclear-armed states.
