A researcher has described attending the final edition of LABScon, where they presented work on the geopolitics of computing power. The talk, titled 'Chips on the Move: Export Controls, Evasion, and the Race for Compute', examined the relationship between strategic goals and the global contest for semiconductors, including how export controls are evaded. The conference has now held its last event.
Why now: The closing of LABScon and rising political attention on chip export controls and access to compute are drawing discussion.
