Robert P. Jones, a scholar of Christian nationalism, argues in an interview with The Guardian that comparisons between current US politics and the Nazi era are now warranted. Speaking around the release of his new book 'Backslide', he warns that Christian nationalist currents in American political life show troubling historical parallels. The remarks are circulating widely online, sparking debate about when such comparisons are legitimate rather than exaggerated.
Why now: A prominent expert on Christian nationalism has publicly endorsed a historically charged comparison of US politics to the Nazi era, tied to his new book.
