Philippines seeks $5 million UN fund to fight super pollutants
Original: PH targets $5-M UN fund to tackle ‘super pollutants’
The Philippines is targeting a $5-million United Nations fund to address so-called super pollutants, highly potent greenhouse gases such as methane and hydrofluorocarbons that warm the planet far faster than carbon dioxide. Accessing the fund would help the country finance measures to cut these emissions. The move highlights growing attention in Southeast Asia on short-lived climate pollutants as part of wider climate action efforts.
Why now: The Philippines' bid for UN climate financing is timely as countries intensify efforts to cut potent short-lived greenhouse gases.
