Netanyahu says UK still an ally, warns of rogue actors
Original: Benjamin Netanyahu says British gov't still an ally of Israel, warns of rogue actors
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the British government remains an ally of Israel, while cautioning about rogue actors within or around it. His remarks come amid strained UK-Israel relations over the Gaza war and Britain's moves toward recognising a Palestinian state. Netanyahu's comments signal an attempt to separate official London policy from elements he views as hostile to Israel.
Why now: Tensions between Israel and the UK over Gaza and Palestinian statehood recognition have put the two governments' relationship under scrutiny.
