Developers weigh self-hosting Umami Analytics as a GA4 alternative
Original: Ditch GA4: How to Self-Host Umami Analytics on Vultr for GDPR-Compliant, Ultra-Fast... # programming # devops # cloud #
A tutorial is circulating on replacing Google Analytics 4 with Umami, a lightweight open-source web analytics tool self-hosted on Vultr cloud servers. The pitch: simpler, faster analytics that keep visitor data on infrastructure the site owner controls, avoiding GDPR headaches tied to Google's data processing. It reflects a broader shift among developers toward privacy-friendly, self-hosted alternatives to mainstream tracking tools.
Why now: Ongoing concern over GDPR compliance and privacy implications of Google Analytics is pushing site owners toward self-hosted alternatives.
