Playwright and director Koki Mitai was absent from Nippon TV's live news program after being unable to return to Tokyo in time. He stepped in as a replacement performer for a stage production in Okayama, forcing him to miss the broadcast. Announcer Koji Azumi explained the reason to viewers on air, noting Mitai simply could not make it back to the capital in time.
Why now: The popular playwright missing a live broadcast due to a last-minute stage substitution drew attention to the unusual scheduling clash.
