Around 700 prisoners are being released early in Britain because prisons are operating at 98% capacity. The roundup also cites a dual rapist from Jamaica allowed to remain in the UK after saying he is bisexual, and an MI5 finding that Chinese spies allegedly bankrolled more than 100 UK academics through a front company without universities noticing.

Why now: The early release of hundreds of prisoners has reignited debate over UK prison overcrowding and government policy.
