Oktoberfest ride hands out free shorts to stop upskirting
Original: Women given free cycling shorts to prevent upskirting on Oktoberfest amusement ride https://www.theguardian.com/world/20
Organisers of the Teufelsrad, a traditional amusement ride at Munich's Oktoberfest, are giving women free cycling shorts to wear while riding, in an effort to prevent upskirting photography. The measure has drawn attention to ongoing concerns about voyeurism and women's safety at the festival, and has sparked debate about whether the burden of prevention is being placed on women rather than offenders.
Why now: The unusual safety measure at a world-famous festival raises questions about voyeurism and women's rights.
