Shrewsbury may twin with Ukrainian city Okhtyrka
Original: Shrewsbury could twin with Okhtyrka in north-east Ukraine
The Shropshire town of Shrewsbury could formally twin with Okhtyrka, a city in north-east Ukraine, under proposals reported by the BBC. Town twinning links communities abroad, often through cultural exchange and practical support. If approved, Shrewsbury would join the many British towns that have partnered with Ukrainian municipalities since Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022.
Why now: British towns forming partnerships with Ukrainian cities remains a topic of local interest and solidarity following Russia's invasion.
