A new study published in Scientific Reports examines body awareness in Goffin's cockatoos, adding to evidence that these Indonesian parrots possess a sense of their own bodies when interacting with objects. The findings are drawing attention among readers interested in animal cognition, as such awareness is rarely documented outside mammals and has implications for how bird intelligence is understood.
Why now: Research showing self-awareness-like abilities in a parrot species fascinates people interested in animal intelligence.
