The Flock Backlash Catches Up to the Tech
Flock Safety, the US company behind a vast network of automated license plate readers used by police and neighborhoods, is facing a growing backlash over surveillance and data-sharing concerns, and the criticism is now translating into pressure on the technology itself, with calls in some places to restrict or unwind its use.
Why now: Rising public and political concern over mass license plate surveillance has pushed the Flock controversy into mainstream attention.
