UAE authorities have escalated their characterization of an incident aboard a Flydubai flight, describing the co-pilot's attack on the captain as a 'terrorist' act. This classification goes beyond the initial report, which only identified the co-pilot as the assailant, now adding a specific motive and severity designation. The reclassification is drawing attention as it significantly raises the legal stakes of the case.

Why now: The unexpected escalation from an assault case to a terrorism designation makes the Flydubai incident newly newsworthy.
