Suman Sahai warns of 98% shortfall in India's Green Mission
Original: Suman Sahai|98% Shortfall in Green Mission & Deforestation Amid Climate Change
Suman Sahai highlights a reported 98% shortfall in India's Green India Mission, paired with continuing deforestation as climate change pressures mount. The claim points to a wide gap between the afforestation programme's targets and what has actually been achieved, raising questions about India's climate commitments and forest policy. Critics and observers are likely debating funding, implementation and the broader consequences for carbon goals.
Why now: Concerns about a massive gap between India's afforestation targets and results, against a backdrop of climate change, make the claim timely and controversial.
