SparrowMap volunteer cameras track government vehicles

SparrowMap is drawing attention as a decentralized surveillance project: volunteers run cameras that log the movements of government vehicles, and the network is described as being owned by nobody. Supporters frame it as a transparency tool that keeps tabs on state activity, while the idea of citizen-run tracking of official vehicles raises obvious privacy and legal questions. Debate is centering on who is accountable when accountability tools have no owner.
Why now: The novelty and controversy of a leaderless volunteer network monitoring government vehicles is sparking debate about transparency versus surveillance.
