Pacific climate summit draws thin turnout from world leaders
Original: Pacific climate summit faces thin turnout from global leaders
A climate summit focused on the Pacific region is being held with only a small number of global leaders in attendance. The low turnout is being read as a sign of waning international commitment to the Pacific islands, which face some of the most severe consequences of rising seas and warming temperatures. Observers are questioning whether major powers are treating the region's climate concerns as a priority.
Why now: The sparse leader attendance is being seen as a signal of declining international attention to Pacific climate issues.
