John McEnroe Says Best US Athletes Skip Tennis

Original: “The Best Athletes Play American Football, Basketball” – John McEnroe Gives Blunt Verdict On USA’s Big Tennis Problem

John McEnroe has given a blunt assessment of American tennis, saying the best athletes in the United States choose American football and basketball rather than tennis. The seven-time Grand Slam champion argues the sport struggles to attract top-tier talent, leaving US men's tennis without a sustained pipeline of elite players compared with other major sports.

Why now: McEnroe's blunt comments on why US tennis lags behind other American sports have reignited debate about talent development.
