Tennessee prisons chief resigns after botched Christa Pike execution
Original: Tennessee prisons official resigns after Christa Pike’s failed US execution https://www. aljazeera.com/news/2026/10/3/t
Tennessee's governor announced that Frank Strada, the state's top prisons official, would step down following the failed execution of Christa Pike. Pike, the only woman on Tennessee's death row, was convicted of a 1995 murder. The resignation comes amid scrutiny of how the state carried out the lethal injection, which did not proceed as planned.
Why now: A failed execution in a US state prompts accountability at the top of the corrections department.
