A Putin motorcade, escorted by a helicopter, sped along a highway in Russia's Chelyabinsk region while ordinary drivers, including an old Zhiguli and a funeral service vehicle, were forced to wait at the roadside. Federal roads were reportedly closed for three days due to his visit to the Centre-2026 military exercises, causing kilometres-long traffic jams. Critics online seized on the contrast between the president's security operation and the disruption to daily life.
Why now: The stark contrast between Putin's heavily secured motorcade and halted civilians, including a hearse, struck a nerve amid anger over road closures for the military exercises.
