Dutch solar farms host more wildlife than nearby grasslands
Original: Camera traps across Dutch solar fields recorded more hares and hedgehogs than nearby grasslands
Camera traps placed across solar fields in the Netherlands recorded more hares and hedgehogs than in neighbouring grasslands, suggesting the fenced energy sites can double as wildlife habitat. The findings add to debate over whether solar parks can support biodiversity while generating renewable power.
Why now: It challenges the common view that solar farms displace wildlife, making it relevant to energy and nature debates.
