B.C. Conservative leader stands by candidate despite anti-LGBT remarks
Original: "B.C. Conservative leader disagrees with candidate’s anti-LGBT remarks, but won’t remove her as candidate" # Politics #
The leader of British Columbia's Conservative Party has distanced himself from anti-LGBT comments made by one of his candidates, saying he disagrees with her remarks, but he has refused to remove her from the ballot. The decision is drawing criticism in the province, with opponents arguing it signals tolerance of discriminatory views within the party ahead of the election campaign.
Why now: The party leader's refusal to drop the candidate despite disavowing her comments is fuelling debate over intolerance in B.C. politics.
