Climate warnings to US government date back to 1979

A social media post reminds readers that concern about climate change is not new, pointing to 1979 when scientists warned the highest levels of the US government about global warming, with other countries following suit. The message is aimed at younger people born after 2000 who may assume climate change only recently entered public debate, and it has drawn modest engagement from users discussing the long history of climate advocacy.

Why now: People are reflecting on how long governments have known about climate change while emissions have continued to rise.
